FMCSA proposes a National Registry of Medical Examiners for driver physicals - December 1, 2008
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently issued a notice of proposed rulemaking requesting comment in regards to the creation of a National Registry for Certified Medical Examiners which perform driver physical examinations in context to operation of commercial motor vehicles. In a Federal Register notice dated December 1, 2008, the Agency proposes to create to set uniform standards for medical examiners, create a registry of certified examiners and require all CMV driver physicals to be administered by a certified physician. OSHA proposes new rules on Cranes and Derricks in Construction - October 9, 2008
The Occupational Safety and Health Administraton (OSHA) is proposing new and stricker rules regarding use of Crane and Derrick equipment used in Construction as recently published the Federal Register (FR Vol. 73, No. 197). Areas if emphisis within the proposed rule includes: site hazard assessment, equipment inspection and operator certification. The proposed rule is attached. Minimum Training Requirements for Entry-level CMV Operators: Proposed Rule, 12/26/07
On December 26, 2007 the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration proposed to revise its standards for manditory training of entry-level commercial motor vehicle drivers. The rule would apply to all entry level drivers engaged in interstate operations and would substantially increase the training requirements needed for obtaining a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).

Ladder Failure. Werner Platform Ladder 8’ model # P7406, Nov 15, 2007
EQUIPMENT HAZARD: A Werner platform ladder collapsed on 9/28/07 when the top pivot bolts sheared under normal usage. Check your respective ladder inventories for this type of ladder and remove from service if the incorrect bolts are present. It might not be a bad idea to go ahead and inspect all ladders regardless of make and model. This clearly illustrates the importance of a regular ladder inspection program.

Increase in Federal Minimum Wage - May 24, 2007

Recall Notice: In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Cooper Lighting Inc., of Houston, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 3,200 Contractor’s Choice FasTest™ High Capacity Emergency Lighting Units. A circuit board in the light could malfunction, preventing the lights from illuminating in the event of a power failure. MTD Southwest Inc. Recalls Troy-Bilt, Craftsman Chain Saws, Breaking Handles Pose Laceration Hazard
Troy-Bilt and Craftsman Brand Gasoline Chain Saw's plastic front handle can break during operation. If this
occurs, the saw would be difficult to control and poses a risk for
lacerations. MTD
has received two reports of consumers losing control of the saw when
the handles broke during use. One consumer reported bruising to his
elbow and the other received burns to his fingers after contacting the
muffler when the chain saw he was using broke and he lost control of
the saw.

Acer Announces Recall of Notebook Computer Batteries Due To Fire Hazard
